So there hasn't been a post up here in a few weeks.. that's because it was holiday and Beach time!! Now it's back to work and with a thud really as the weather is so appalling. I think we are all beginning to wonder whether there will be a summer at all?!??! All the better for working in.
Donald was interviewed by SiliconRepublic and appeared in the Irish Independent during the "holidays" where he spoke about mobile advertising and the relevance of accessing the internet from the mobile phone. Check it out here !!
So, even though there has been a break in mobile news we really haven't missed a whole lot... but here's a quick round up;
Vodafone announced there new data pricing model for the UK and it has been met with much criticism mainly because its so confusing! It is certainly a step in the right direction and now the operator will be allowing it's customers daily access for £1 (€1.47). This however limits the user to 500KB and once they have exceeded 15MB they will be charged a higher tiered price. Its all very unclear and in general it's very hard to monitor what amount of data you are consuming until you see the bill. Russell Buckley at MobHappy raised some operability issues also. ......... A new couponing technology will be launched in August called shop, scan and save that will allow retailers and marketers clean up the malredemption problems encountered with using traditional coupons by issuing them through mobile phones....... ICEFone, an Irish mobile couponing company have already launched their own coupon "wallet" and have teamed up with Bebo to offer it to all members of the network.... we are all sick of talking about the wonderous iPhone - it won't cure cancer, regrow your hair or even help you lose weight; we might not even get to see it for another year! Check out Steve Jobs newest announcement here - we swear it is him....

Donald is famous! Well at least that 's the word on the street after an article featured in last friday's Irish Examiner profiled our Managing director. Apart from the dashing photograph (which appeared not once but 3 times!!) the page spread focused in on the growth of mobile marketing and it's future use as a commercial medium.
Data charges are the sore point right now and they are probably the biggest concern for advertisers and consumers when it comes to mobile marketing. In fact I reckon that high data charges or fear of them is most definitely the greatest obstacle getting in the way of mass adoption of mobile services and consequently stellar growth. Donald shared some interesting insights into the debate on data charges in the article and don't worry if you missed it - You can download it here!
